This absolutely stunning pair of candle holders by Veronese are cast from a high quality polyresin compound and have been handpainted in a metallic silver finish with coloured accents as shown. They depict the Egyptian God Anubis in a kneeling posture, holding the candle receptacle aloft.
Each candle holder stands 20cm in height with the base measuring 9.5cm x 6cm. Their bases are lined with black velvet to prevent slipping and damage to surfaces, and they hold standard dining candles (not included). Truly stunning pieces of Egyptian decor!
Anubis was the God of Embalming and the Dead. Since jackals were often seen in cemeteries, the ancient Egyptians believed that Anubis watch over the dead. Anubis was the god who embalmed Osiris after he was killed by Seth. Thus, Anubis watches over the process of mummification. Priests often wore a mask of Anubis during mummification ceremonies.
