This beautiful statue by Veronese is cast from a high quality polyresin compound and has been handpainted in a burnished bronze finish with coloured accents as shown. It depicts an Egyptian cat, emblematic of the Goddess Bastet, wearing an ornate Scarab beetle necklace.
The statue stands 20cm high with the base measuring 6cm x 10.5cm. The base is lined with black velvet to prevent slipping and damage to surfaces. A truly stunning piece of Egyptian decor!
Bastet is the Goddess of Joy, Music and Dance, as well as Love, Sex and Fertility. Like the ferocious war goddess Sekhmet, Bastet was originally a lioness deity, but from 900BC she began to be represented as a cat, perhaps because of her gentle nature. She was sometimes depicted with kittens, which symbolised her role as a fertility deity. Mummified cats were often buried near her shrines.
